The Mayo Clinic SCAD Research team’s study and findings on the impact of SCAD on a survivors’ mental health were recently published in the Journal of the American Heart Association.
A largely unexplored subject, members of the Mayo Clinic SCAD Research team assessed the prevalence and severity of psychiatric symptoms after SCAD. In this article, they share their methodology, analysis and conclusions about the impact of SCAD on mental health.
Among other things, the study discovered that SCAD survivors have significant rates of mental health issues, which can impact their quality of life. The severity levels of PTSD, depression, and anxiety symptoms are worse in those who were younger at the time of their SCAD.
