A jam packed 2018 West Coast 5K SCADaddle© weekend took place in Carlsbad, CA on Sept 7-8. The weekend kicked off Friday evening with a Meet & Greet for those impacted by SCAD. Prior to the start of the 5K fun run/walk, there was a warm up by Jazzercise Ocean Fitness Center; a survivor shared her SCAD story; a moment of silence for those who did not survive SCAD and a survivors’ walk to recognize the survivors who attended the 5K. We were honored to have Barbara-Lee Edwards, evening news anchor from Channel 8 (CBS), emcee our event.
The 5K started at the Agua Hedionda Lagoon – North Shore Hubbs Trail and ended at the Discovery Center. Participants received a SCADaddle© medal as they crossed the finish line; enjoyed a silent auction; lunch catered by Ceja’s Mexican Diner & Grill and music by Bach to Rock Music School. There were over 200 registered participants including 33 survivors and several families who participated in memory of their loved ones who did not survive.
Dr. Sharonne Hayes from Mayo Clinic SCAD Research Program (Rochester, MN) and Dr. Jeffrey Cavendish (Kaiser Permanente- San Diego) presented their insights about SCAD at 1pm at the Tri-City Wellness and Fitness Center. A recording of their presentation can be found on our Facebook page. The weekend concluded with a delicious SCAD Reunion Dinner at Hunter Steakhouse.
