After many months of planning, the first 5K SCADaddle for Research in Bethlehem PA was a big success. Over 170 people registered including 15 survivors. More than $17,000 was raised after expenses.
The 5K consisted of a timed run/walk on the Bethlehem Community Center trails. Medals were given to the top three overall male and female finishers and to the top three male and female finishers in various age categories. Several team awards were also presented based on team overall speed and funds raised.
The weekend began on Friday as survivors and their supporters enjoyed a Meet & Greet at the Courtyard by Marriott Easton/Bethlehem, PA.
The weekend was capped by our first Gratitude Gala for SCAD survivors, friends, families, colleagues and community supporters. The Gala took place on Saturday evening at the Events Center at Blue Grillhouse, Bethlehem, PA. Participants enjoyed a number of hors d’oeuvres including a “sliders bar,” mashed potato bar,” and assorted passed plates. Fun and festive drinks were available at a cash bar. There was also a raffle and a silent auction for items donated by local businesses.
A gratitude tribute took place to the survivors who attended the Gala through a slide show featuring their stories. A memorial slide show was also presented to honor a young mother from Pennsylvania who did not survive.
A special thank you to everyone who helped to organize this very successful weekend and to the businesses that helped to sponsor and contribute to our success.
