October 2, 2017
Our third annual 5K in Carlsbad CA took place on September 9 and was a great success. Tens of thousands of dollars were raised for much needed research!
The weekend began on Friday, Sept. 8 with a Meet & Greet. Bob Alico, founder of SCAD Research, welcomed survivors and talked about future plans.
Over 290 people participated in the 5K on Saturday including 58 survivors from across the US and Canada, who attended the many events throughout the weekend. We were excited that three male survivors participated this year.
As participants crossed the finish line they received a uniquely designed wooden participation medal. A silent auction, complimentary lunch by Ceja’s Mexican Diner & Grill and music by Bach to Rock Music School added to the festivities.
Presentation on SCAD
At 1 pm Dr. Sharonne Hayes MD from Mayo Clinic SCAD Research Program (Rochester, MN) and Dr. Jennifer Tremmel MD from Stanford University Medical Center (Stanford, CA) shared their insights about SCAD. Their presentation will be posted to our YouTube channel in the near future.
Saturday Evening
A SCAD Reunion dinner took place Saturday evening. Survivors not only had an opportunity to enjoy each other’s company, they were also challenged to share what SCAD taught them about themselves.
