Our first annual West Coast 5K SCADaddle for Research took place on October 3 in beautiful Carlsbad California starting at Aqua Hedionda Lagoon and ending at the Discovery Center. Thanks to our emcee Matt Baylow, meteorologist from CBS News 8 San Diego, we had beautiful weather!
Survivors Erin Balough, Raylene Davis, Karyn Kiefer, Ellen Robin (committee lead), Wini Rumis and Tina Smith spent many hours planning this very successful event. A special thank you to Ellen who decided to organize a 5K to raise money for research as part of her birthday celebration.
There were over 190 registered participants including 32 survivors coming from the states of California, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, Minnesota, Massachusetts, Washington and British Columbia. Thousands of dollars were raised for research.
Sponsors help to defray costs and raise additional money for research. Our gratitude goes out to all of our sponsors especially this year’s Patron Sponsor Coast Surgery Center and Partner Sponsor Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation – Discovery Center.
Other highlights of the day included the research presentation by Dr. Sharonne Hayes from Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN) SCAD Research Program and Ellen’s birthday party bash on Saturday night at the Discovery Center.
