Our 5th annual West Coast 5K SCADaddle© for Research Run/Walk at beautiful Crown Point Park in San Diego was very successful, raising thousands of dollars for research! This year’s jampacked weekend started on Friday evening with a Meet & Greet at a photo studio. Appetizers were served providing an opportunity for SCAD survivors and SCAD Angel families to socialize and buy raffle tickets on a variety of items including a beautiful, work-of-art quilt made by Bonnie Bucknam, an internationally known quilter.
On Saturday, the planning committee was up bright and early setting up in order to be ready for the arrival of participants starting at 7:30am. Prior to the race, there was a warm-up by Jazzercise; a survivor shared her SCAD story and survivors at the 5K were recognized. There was a moment of silence for SCAD Angels who did not survive. There were over 40 survivors who registered for the 5K along with two SCAD Angel families.
The chip-timed race started at 9:00am. Participants were cheered on by San Diego State University cheerleaders and were also greeted by them upon return. Two complimentary slices of pizza along with salad were enjoyed by all after the awards ceremony. WomenHeart representatives and Pam Mace, executive director of the Fibromuscular Dysplasia Society of America, Inc.(FMDS) had booths at the 5K. Over half of SCAD patients have evidence of FMD.
Mayo Clinic SCAD Research Presentation
We were honored to have Dr. Sharonne Hayes from Mayo Clinic SCAD Research Program (Rochester, MN) join us and present Mayo Clinic’s latest SCAD research findings at Kaiser Medical Center – Zion in San Diego. You can watch Dr. Hayes’ presentation on our YouTube channel.
The weekend was capped by beautiful weather and a delicious dinner for SCAD survivors, their supporters and SCAD Angel families at Fireside by the Patio in Liberty Station, San Diego.
