2024 West Coast (CA) 5k SCADaddle© for Research
Saturday, September 7, 2024
Our 8th annual West Coast SCADaddle for Research weekend took place in San Diego at beautiful Mission Bay – Crown Point Park. The 5k was timed and awards were given to the overall winner male and female. Recognition was given to 2nd and 3rd place males/females overall and to the top three males/females in a variety of age groups.
Prior to the 5k, Melissa Betz from Jazzercise warmed up the participants. SCAD survivor Andrea Barrett Pavon shared her story.
The San Diego State University cheerleaders added to the festivities cheering participants at the start and as they crossed the finished line.
All participants received a participation medal when they crossed the finish line.
Afterwards, participants relaxed and enjoyed an Acai Bowl made on the spot to their liking. They shopped the SCAD store and vendor booths. Face painting was a big hit.
They also had an opportunity to bid on items at the West Coast online silent auction. The 5k was fun for the whole family while raising thousands of dollars for much needed research.
SCAD Reunion & Mayo Clinic SCAD Presentation
On Friday evening, SCAD survivors, their supporters and families/friends who lost someone to SCAD enjoyed the SCAD Social and Reunion event at the Marina Village Conference Center, San Diego. Th evening began with a social hour and followed by a delicious homemade Mexican dinner with all of the fixings.
We were honored to have Dr. Sharonne Hayes from Mayo Clinic SCAD Research Program Team, Rochester MN join us. She presented the latest research findings. Her presentation was also streamed on Facebook. After the presentation, Dr Hayes answered questions from the audience including those submitted through Facebook. Dr. Hayes started SCAD research at Mayo Clinic in 2010 and an internationally recognized SCAD expert.
