2025 San Diego (CA) 5K SCADaddle© For Research
Saturday, September 6, 2025
Our 9th annual San Diego SCADaddle for Research weekend took place September 6 in San Diego at beautiful Mission Bay – Crown Point Park. The 5K was timed and awards were given to the overall winners male and female, 2nd and 3rd place males/females overall and to the top three males/females in a variety of age groups.
Prior to the 5K, Melissa Betz from Jazzercise warmed up the participants. SCAD survivor Annie Paredes from Massachusetts shared her story.
The San Diego State University cheerleaders once again added to the festivities cheering participants at the start and as they crossed the finished line.
All participants received a participation medal when they crossed the finish line.
Afterwards, participants relaxed and enjoyed an Acai Bowl made on the spot to their liking. They shopped the SCAD store and vendor booths. Face painting was a big hit.
They also had an opportunity to bid on items at the San Diego online silent auction. There was also a drawing on a beautiful handmade quilt “Heartfelt” made by Frances Doerr-Fulton and quilted by Sue Handley.
The 5K was fun for the whole family while raising many thousands of dollars for much needed research.
On Friday evening, SCAD survivors, their supporters and families/friends who lost someone to SCAD enjoyed the SCAD Social and Reunion event at the Marina Village Conference Center, San Diego. The evening began with a social hour, followed by a delicious homemade Mexican dinner with all of the fixings.
We were honored to have Dr. Sharonne Hayes from Mayo Clinic SCAD Research Program Team, Rochester MN join us. Dr. Hayes presented Mayo’s latest research findings and answered questions from the audience. In 2010, under Dr. Hayes’ leadership, Mayo Clinic was the first institution to start research focused specifically on SCAD. She is an internationally recognized SCAD expert.
Sponsorships by organizations and foundations are key to raising additional money for research on the causes and best treatment options for SCAD.
