Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection

Two Episodes

October 15, 2012

I have had 2 episodes of SCAD. The first one was attributed to my contraceptive pill and after leaving hospital on medication ‘just in case’ they said I was no more likely to have any more heart trouble than anyone else and the dissection would heal itself with no need for stenting or anything.
I was told I could have no more children, not be on hormones and then my risk was no greater than anyone else’s but 2 years later I had another one which was not so severe and had lower troponin levels but this was more worrying because there was no explanation for it. My cardiologist said he’d rarely seen a case of one SCAD and never had he seen anyone who had 2, only me. I am increasingly worried about what will happen when I hit menopause and no-one seems able to tell me. I have to wait and see and hope I get to see my 3 kids grow up! Sometimes it’s hard and I get depressed but I try to stay positive.
