Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection

Loss of my beautiful mum

May 30, 2013

My name is Laura, I’m 19 years old and studying Psychology at the University of Bristol, England and this is my mum’s story.

I only found out today that my mum had SCAD as I find it difficult to ask my dad the ins and outs of her death. On the week beginning the 15th September 2008, my mum had her first SCAD attack. After being rushed to hospital, they told her it was because her stress levels were high and that she needed to take it easy, so they sent her home.

On the 26th September, the day before my 15th birthday, I came home from school to find my mum dead on her bedroom floor. My dad was on his way home from work and my two younger sisters were on the bus from school. Obviously it is wonderful to know so many people have survived SCAD attacks but I will admit that it is difficult to see so many amazing survivor stories on this page, as I cannot help but think, if there was someone at home, would she have survived?

I am shouting out to anyone out there who knows any information about the chance of inheritance with SCAD? I know results are not yet conclusive but is there anything my sisters (16, 14) and I can do to find out a little more?
