My heart attack happened while I was on the treadmill at the gym. I had been having jaw tension and had no idea what it was a few days prior. I felt dizzy, broke out into a cold sweat and had chest pain. My mom came to see me an hour later and I laid in my car with chest pain. By the time my mom came to get me I had walked to a restaurant near by. I sat down to eat thinking that would help but I ended up having shooting pain down my back and tingling in my arms as well as dizziness and chest pain.
The ambulance came and the EKG was normal. I still went to the ER where they confirmed troponin was in my blood. Two I had an angiogram where they further destabilized my heart. The cardiologist who was doing my angiogram ran towards me while the nurses rushed to prepare me for heart surgery, and asked me “did you do coke!? why is this happening?!”. I said “once, in India”.
I was driven to Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles from a smaller hospital near by. I was rushed into surgery with a brilliant surgeon (the director of heart surgeries I later found out). I made it out alive. I always had problems with my period and I was always late. As a result, I was on birth control pills from the ages of 14 to 24.
I am so grateful to be alive. I do not take any medication for my heart now and my life has returned to normal. I will not bear children and I have learned to accept that.
